Herb Parker

Crucible, 1995 and Crucible: Crucible Evolutum, 2004
Herb Parker was born in 1953 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree of Fine Arts at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. After college, Parker joined the United States Marine Corps from 1974 to 1976. He joined the Peace Corps in 1978 and was active for two years. In 1980, he went on to pursue a Master’s degree of Fine Arts back at East Carolina University. He has received grants from many southern universities to complete his sculpture projects. In 1995, Parker created Crucible in the South Carolina Botanical Garden and in 2004, he updated his project and re-named it Crucible: Crucibulum Evolutum. Since 1991, Parker has been a Professor of Art at College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina.
